Asha Self comes from New Jersey in The US where she grew up surrounded by jazz music.
She first learned about harmonization in her church youth choir where her she became more comfortable with her ability to accurately hear, produce and maintain her harmonies.
Cherry Hill High School West’s music program provided a chance to become familiar with classical techniques and lead to her first private voice lessons and by the end of her High School career she auditioned for and was accepted by Westminster Choir College at Ryder University.
But, at that point in her life she did not feel like committing to Opera connected with how she envisioned herself as a performer.
She attended Montclair State University and obtained a degree in Humanities. Being close to New York , she began to audition as an actress and a singer and ultimately auditioned for and was accepted into the summer program at American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan; a very old and prestigious acting school. Though focused on acting technique, part of the curriculum was voice and speech development, which provided her first formal training in Broadway style of singing.
After a year and a half at AADA, Asha threw herself into the performing arts, building her career as both a singer and actress.
In 2009 She and her family decided to move to Portugal. Since then she has had the good fortune to be able to continue working as a singer and has begun teaching in various Arts schools in the Porto area including: Valadares Escola de Artes, Oporto British School and Jahas Academia de Artes.
Asha’s Styles class seeks to develop core voice strength, stage presence, and of course expose students to various styles to encourage their growth as performers.

Ela aprendeu a harmonizar no grupo de coro, de jovens na sua igreja. Foi aqui que ela se tornou mais confortável, desenvolveu com precisão a sua capacidade de ouvir, produzir e manter suas harmonias.
Durante os quatro anos de Liceu Cherry Hill High School West (do 9º-12º
ano) seguiu o programa de música, fornecendo-lhe a oportunidade de se
familiarizar com as técnicas de música clássica. O que fez com que a
leva-se a ter as suas
primeiras aulas de canto particular. No
fim do último ano de Liceu candidatou-se ao programa Universitário de
Westminster Choir College, na Universidade Ryder em Princeton, New Jersey. Para
tal teve que fazer uma audição musical perante um painel de juízes/professores.
Audição esta que passou e foi aceite ao programa Universitário.
Mas, naquele momento de sua vida, e devido à forma
como ela se imaginava como artista, decidiu não seguir o programa pois se o
tivesse feito estaria a dedicar-se só a Ópera.
Obteve a Licenciatura em Humanidades, pela Universidade de
Montclair State University em Upper Monctlair, New Jersey . Isto permitiu-lhe estar perto de Nova York, e fazer diferentes audições
como actriz e cantora. Após terminar a Licenciatura candidatou-se ao programa
de verão da American Academy of Dramatic Arts, uma escola de artes com muita
história e prestigio, em Manhattan, New York. Embora este programa estivesse focado na arte de actuação técnica, parte do currículo foi o desenvolvimento de voz e fala, o que lhe permitiu ter pela primeira vez uma formação formal de
estilo de canto Broadway.
Após o programa de verão decidiu continuar mais um ano na
American Academy of Dramatic Arts, o que ajudou a fortalecer o seu conhecimento
e experiência até então. Seguiu-se depois uma temporada em que se dedicou em
consolidar a sua carreira quer como actriz e cantora, tendo para este efeito
participado em diversos projectos.
Em 2009, ela e sua família decidiram-se mudar para Portugal. Desde então, ela teve a sorte de poder
continuar a trabalhar como cantora com um diverso leque de artistas.
O estilo das aulas da Asha, visam desenvolver as principais características da voz, presença em palco e, claro, expor os alunos a vários
estilos para incentivar o
seu crescimento como artistas.
